Prepress & Proofing

Our pre-press and print proofing services use up-to-date hardware and current versions of all major software, ensuring we receive and process your files with efficiency. Our comprehensive graphics department is both mac and PC compatible to ensure we are able to process all types of digital files.

What is Prepress?

Prepress refers to the preparatory steps and procedures that occur before printing, including file preparation, color management, layout design, and image manipulation. The goal of prepress is to optimize digital files for printing and ensure that the final output meets the desired specifications and standards. At this stage, our trained technicians make sure your digital files are set up appropriately and have all the necessary elements for a successful print job. This is called pre-flighting. Once your this stage are complete, we move on to the proofing stage of the process.

What is Proofing?

Proofing is the process of reviewing and approving proofs of printed materials to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to design specifications before mass production. Proofs can be digital or physical representations of the final printed piece and are used to identify any errors or discrepancies that need to be corrected before printing.

Types of Proofs:

  1. Soft Proofs: Soft proofs are digital representations of the printed piece that can be viewed on a computer screen or monitor. They are often used for initial review and approval of design layouts, color proofs, and digital mock-ups.
  2. Hard Proofs: Hard proofs are physical prints of the artwork or layout that provide a more accurate representation of the final printed piece. They allow for visual inspection of color accuracy, image quality, and content placement, making them essential for final proofing and approval before printing.

Once your proofs have been reviewed and approved, we will send the file(s) directly to print production.

At Custom Press, we understand how important it is to our clients that their print jobs, no matter how big or small, are successful from design conception to final completion. Prepress and proofing are essential stages in our printing process that help us optimize digital files for printing, ensure accuracy and quality in the final output, and provide opportunities for error detection and client approval before mass production. These stages play a crucial role in achieving successful print projects and satisfying our client expectations.
